The launching of MakiNoa

LSC NEWS

Club sailing Day 21-Apr-07

What a fantastic turnout we had on Saturday and what a pity the wind decided to stay at home.

No worries though, as the tenacious sailors amongst us decided to do a spot of boat drifting and the rest of us on shore chose to make the best of the gorgeous weather and relax with a bit of food and catch up with friends over a drink or two.

As promised I launched my new boat, a Skipper 12, named MakiNoa. She slipped into the water in a shower of beer ready for her maiden voyage. Max and Nora being keen to hitch a ride in what was their playboat for the past six months, jumped in and off we sailed. She performed to plan and I very much look forward to our next sail together.

For those that needed a bit more of a thrill, Ali offered a drive to the Malingunde Celtel tower in his overland truck. The intrepid explorers came back a little bone shaken but fun was had by all. Ali is quite keen to use his truck more often so you might find yourself hitching a ride with him one day!

The wind was determined to stay away so my planned "Pursuit Race", yes I was planning a new and exiting handicap race, failed to materialize. Dan Moss did eventually get some action later in the day with the new Enterprise (EllaNoel) as the weather front brought in a strong breeze, but the rest of us had packed up our boats and where getting ready to leave.

It was nice to see a few new faces at the Dam, and hopefully we'll see Roberto, Jan, Clement and John out at the club again. I hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Upcoming events: please note we're planning a sailing course for beginners and improvers on the weekend of May the 5th and a fun packed family open day later in the month. If interested and you need more details then please get in touch.

And finally, thanks to Broadband Digital Solutions we also have a new website... check it out!
